Where it
all began

As someone who had never made bread of any sort, I assumed it would be too difficult to master. But a crossing of paths with a sourdough expert, who gave me a gift of some starter, and pointed me in the right direction was the beginning of the Crumb baking adventure. 

I was as surprised as anyone when my first efforts emerged as sublime sourdough loaves. Over the past seven years I have baked hundreds more for my family that would happily sit alongside those you find in posh bakeries and restaurants. 

Along the way I met an increasing number of people who told me they would love to make sourdough, but don't know where to start. 

I realised there was a blind spot for exactly the kind of advice practical advice that got me started. Crumb was created to fill that gap. 

Too many baking sites get bogged down in highly technical details, and too many baking suppliers will try to convince you that you need to spend absurd amounts of money on branded baking equipment. 

Crumb, on the other hand, wants to prove that anyone can make perfect sourdough. You don't need training,  you don't need baking experience, and you certainly don't need to shell out hundreds of pounds. Our products are designed to be the simplest path to great bread. Happy baking!
